About Charles E. Mapson
Charles Mapson has practiced for 25 years in the general and corporate banking fields, and has represented publicly traded companies as both internal and external counsel.
He was chief legal executive of the nation’s first successful internet bank holding company, providing special guidance to its board of directors and implementing corporate governance aspects of the Sarbanes Oxley Act and NASDAQ requirements throughout the company. He has represented borrowers and lenders in connection with hundreds of millions of dollars in municipal and other public financing.
Charles managed all legal, regulatory, compliance and corporate secretary functions of NetBank, Inc., and all of its subsidiaries. Prior to the current mortgage and banking crisis, NetBank, Inc., had assets of nearly $5 billion. He also was responsible for a wide variety of banking activity, including regulatory, consumer and commercial finance, small business, international and real estate, as a member of the internal counsel staffs of Barnett Banks, Inc., in Florida and First Fidelity Bancorporation in New Jersey, which were at the time the largest banking organizations based in their respective states.
